Qualifications

Valid CA Driver’s License; Basic Patient Care Principles; Medical Terminology; Computer literacy;

Work Experience

  • At least six (6) months medical assistant experience, preferably in ambulatory or community clinic setting.
  • At least six (6) months experience in a front office/administrative role, preferably in ambulatory or community clinic setting.
  • At least six (6) months experience driving and/or working on a mobile service unit, preferably in a healthcare setting.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent plus completion of accredited Medical Assistant Training Program with internship; Certification preferred.

Examples of Duties – Medical Assistant

  • Will function as support for Provider and responds to needs of the patients within the scope of their practice
  • Document patient vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration and chief complaint for visit in EHR and report to the Provider any acute findings requiring immediate interventions.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and nursing care relevant to body systems.
  • Observe patients, charting and reporting changes in patients' conditions, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and taking any necessary action
  • Document treatments and procedures completed. Observes/reports to provider and documents patient response to treatments and procedures according to policy/procedure.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, tests, or treatments and explain procedures
  • File patient information in patient EHR record in a timely manner.
  • Maintain the efficiency of the Clinical area by assisting with the stocking and reordering of supplies.
  • Apply splints and providing care for orthopedic injuries as required
  • Provide PPD testing as well as SQ and IM Injection administration
  • Provide basic patient care or treatments, such as taking temperatures or blood pressures, dressing wounds
  • Collect urine samples and perform routine tests directed by the Provider; prepare other specimens for testing or lab pickup
  • Follow up on referrals weekly. Track all X-rays, labs, MRIs, CT scans, and other referrals requiring preauthorization
  • Assist in training MA students. No student is to perform work for Peach Tree Healthcare without an employee present.
  • Room patients promptly when updated to “Ready to room”.
  • Use appropriate PPE to protect themselves and their patients from infectious diseases
  • Twice daily refrigerator and freezer temperature checks, reporting any variances according to policy
  • Checking providers' schedules daily, making sure they conform to our scheduling policies; provide constructive feedback to the schedulers
  • Maintain sufficient inventory of all VFC medications and place orders as necessary
  • Monitor medication outdates and schedule returns for outdates; maintain required paperwork and logs
  • Transfer VFC medications and track according to requirements – keep logs
  • Maintain sufficient inventory of all medical supplies and place orders as necessary
  • Follow up on patient no shows and recalls
  • Check voicemail and e-mail throughout the day and return calls promptly as necessary
  • Process all the paperwork in the Provider’s outbox.
  • Check fax/mail inbox for orders diligently.
  • Retrieve specimens from the exam rooms (Strep tests, etc.)
  • Check, clean and stock rooms regularly.
  • Check that all exam equipment is functioning properly.
  • Coordinate referral of services to and from other Health Care Providers
  • Practice within the scope of Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant
  • Attend staff meetings and mandatory staff training as required
  • Assist in training new staff as needed
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards patients and coworkers
  • Other duties as required

Additional Duties – Front Office

  • Ability to work with patients and families in multi cultural environment.
  • Obtain customers' names, addresses, and billing information
  • Verify customer information for correctness, checking it against previously obtained information as necessary
  • Receive and forward customer complaints
  • Greet persons entering establishment, determine nature and purpose of visit, and direct or escort them to specific destinations
  • Receive payment and record receipts for services
  • Collect payment for visit or arrange for billing
  • Review Medi-Cal to verify status as active
  • Consult with patients regarding relevant social programs and assist with documentation for programs and sliding fee
  • Accurate and timely completion of charge documents, billing forms, cash receipts, and daily logs.
  • Ensures and maintains the accurate and complete filing and retrieval of charts and reports.
  • Maintains a professional, neat, and well-organized work area and clinic environment.
  • Provides information in a manner that is ethnically, culturally, and financially sensitive and age appropriate.
  • If multilingual, provides language translation for non-English speaking patients in a manner that is accurate and medically competent.
  • Answers, transfers, and manages incoming telephone calls. Assesses needs of each caller to determine appropriate handling

Added Responsibilities – Mobile Unit Specifics

  • Setting up/Breaking down mobile clinic in all locations and service areas
  • Will perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Will ensure vehicle is fully operational
  • Coordinates safe transport and efficient use of the mobile unit to various community sites and locations. Does not transport passengers.
  • Properly maintain vehicle cleanliness
  • Including but not limited to safety cleaning/disinfecting examination tables and handling biohazard materials, etc.
  • Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance and coordinate repair services on mobile unit
  • Schedule repairs and required services as requested by supervisor

Travel Requirements

Must travel to other sites and location with mobile vehicle to provider services, promote the organization, and to ensure proper maintenance of the vehicle..
