Job Opportunity

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company has an exciting opportunity for a Construction Casualty Underwriter to join our Midwest/Central Region team based out of our Chicago or Houston office locations.

We are looking for a dedicated, forward thinking, and passionate individual who is determined on growing their knowledge and experience working in insurance. The ideal candidate should be eager to learn new products and capable of working independently and with teammates across all disciplines within the organization including: underwriting, claims, loss control, and legal.

This role focuses on working in the large Construction account space. Underwriters gain access to a highly evolving and dynamic atmosphere that involves exposure to major influencers in the insurance and construction fields. This role is great fit for an individual looking to drive growth in an assigned region. Your broker relationships area a key to your success. By providing great service to brokers, you will also aim to generate new business and build new relationships.

Day to day responsibilities include expanding and developing new business opportunities through production and marketing calls with brokers and clients, marketing to distribution channels, prequalifying new business and utilizing underwriting acumen to select sound casualty risks & form opinion of risks.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develop and grow the Construction Casualty book of business which includes primary, lead umbrella, and excess on both practice and project business. Majority of the book is lead umbrella.
Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships in the Midwest/Central Region.
Work closely with loss control, claims, and legal teams to evaluate risk and provide solutions to customers.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity.
Maintain a profitable renewal book.
Travel up to 20% of the time.

Experienced Underwriter with 5 to 15 years Casualty underwriting experience (Prior Construction Underwriting Experience a Plus)
Strong underwriting acumen

Someone with passion, integrity, technical skills. You must be proactive, customer oriented, honest and accountable.
